“Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time” by Agnolo Bronzino

This painting, created in the mid-1500s, likely served as a moral lesson about the consequences of irresponsible sexual behavior.

Venus, the goddess of love and sexuality, and Cupid present the pleasures of sex to an inexperienced young man. The figure drawing back the curtain—Time—reveals the unwanted consequences of licentiousness: the man on the left suffers from syphilis.
