The Medical Inspection by Henri Toulouse-Lautrec

Toulouse-Lautrec scandalized Paris in the late 1800s by depicting the characters and everyday scenes in the neighborhoods where variety theaters, cabarets, and brothels thrived.

The medical examination is shocking due to the harshness of the situation. Two prostitutes await their turn for a third party to examine their genitals to verify that they do not have any visible venereal diseases. We can only speculate, but it is unlikely that the examiner is a doctor; most likely, it is the Madama that runs the place.
