“The Enlightened Crowd” by Raymond Mason

This work depicts the diverse reactions that a new idea, ideology, discovery, or different future can provoke in people.

The sculpture includes 65 figures, each approximately 1.50 m tall. Some look to the future with confidence, seeing the new as an opportunity; others react with fear, violence, or despair; some hide; others turn to religion or mysticism; some renew their feelings for a partner; some conspire; and others view the new with innocence or hope.

This sculpture is located outdoors in the heart of Montreal, at 1981 McGill College Street, at the entrance of the BNP Paribas/Banque Laurentienne building. The photographs were taken by the author of this text.
